The Collection

Care of the Collections

The collections will be housed in a climate-controlled, secure area where environmental conditions are carefully monitored to insure stable temperature and relative humidity appropriate for the preservation of materials.

Adequate security will be provided to protect the materials from unauthorized access, theft, and vandalism.

Materials do not circulate outside the library.

A special reading room will be provided to minimize the risk to holdings while being consulted by library users, and conditions on use (such as the use of gloves, or prohibitions on flash photography or the use of writing implements with ink) will be imposed in order to protect the works.

Procedures for use are designed to assure proper handling of materials consistent with the library's commitment to preserving its collections for future generations.

In working with the collections, staff members regularly identify and treat items needing special conservation.
